Mediation
mediation –noun
action in mediating between parties, as to effect an agreement or reconciliation.
Mediation is an increasingly popular way to work out a fair, legally enforceable settlement without heavily involving the court system in the process. At Conn Kavanaugh, a trained neutral mediator will assist you and your spouse in working toward a divorce settlement, offering guidance and providing a safe environment to address any conflicts that may arise along the way. This process remains completely private and confidential.
Contrary to what many people believe, mediation is not just for "friendly" divorces. Most divorcing couples experience emotional distress even in the best situations. By using a trained mediator, you can focus on your common goal of getting divorced and protecting your children while making your best effort to avoid an emotionally draining or financially expensive legal dispute.
Family mediation is not psychotherapy, marital counseling or legal representation. Mediators with backgrounds in law or mental health do not represent or counsel mediation clients during the mediation process, but rather they serve as neutral facilitators of the decision-making process.
Family mediation is a non-adversarial process for resolving disputes associated with a wide variety of family law and matrimonial issues. Below is a list of some of the issues we frequently work with our clients to resolve:
- Divorce
- Child Custody
- Post-divorce Modifications
- Non-traditional Family Issues
- Prenuptial Agreements
- Relationship agreements
- Estate and Other Family Issues.
